Fear of Failure

Fear of failure can paralyze you into not taking action. Fear or failure is good. It will keep you up at night planning, and going over contingencies.
— Jocko Willink

Fear of failure is good. It’s a good thing, and something we don’t really talk about on this blog a whole lot. Fear or failure can be paralyzing, it can be cumbersome, it can take the form of crippling anxiety, or a panic attack, it can be stress, it can be finances, it can be physical….it can be any type of duress, and it is something we often do not talk about in the workplace, if at all, sometimes. Fear of failure can be one of the toughest things to deal with, yet….we do it.

Whether you suffer from the imposter syndrome, or you have too much on your plate, or dare I say it…..not enough on your plate, fear of failure can feel like you are juggling way too many things at once. It it not a good feeling, yet, one that keeps us going. Keeps us doing….and in the above video, Jocko talks about just how that kind of fear can keep us alive.

I want you to watch the above video, recognize the things that may be stressing you out here and today on a Monday and embrace them. You don’t need to do everything today. You just need to get the next thing done and stay present in the moment. Even if you feel like your life is pulling you in each and every different direction. That is ok….embrace it. Feel it. Own it. And get the next thing in your queue done.

Ever hear of the saying: It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to get started.

That is you. Don’t worry about your fear or failure. Adopt the mindset of: I either win, or I learn and nothing you ever do will feel like a failure. Plus. You don’t really want to go through your life without failing at a few things, do you? Whether that be jobs, relationships, sports, hobbies, or anything in life…..the failure you face, the failures you endure will make you stronger, better, faster, smarter for whatever comes your way next.

No one wants to live life purely on easy street, right? Pity those that do. Pity those that seek the comfort. The obstacle is the way, adversity should always be your choice. Face it, embrace it, own it, adhere to it, and you’ll be surprised at the bigger obstacles you begin to smash week in and week out.

Stop worrying about what is ahead of you. Put your head down, do the next thing and focus on building that momentum. Failure will come. Adversity will come. Tired days will be here. But, not today….you got this.

See you out there. Let’s work together.
