5 Benefits of Meditation

β€œIt’s not knowing what to do, it’s doing what you know.”

Finding the time to create your own stillness before your day begins and at the end of it is hugely important. It is one of the things I urge my clients to β€œTry” as a tool to add in their toolbox and to incorporate it into their morning routines before they begin their day.

My personal mantra and experience with meditation has been pretty incredible over the past 6-7 months, and the more time I find to be β€œStill” the more efficiency I can have heading into my next task. I’m usually more focused, more present, and listening more attentively. It seems totally counterintuitive, and I’ll be honest, it took me a good 3-4 months before I felt it - and yes - I did think meditation was for the yogi’s out there, but really, finding the 10-20 minutes to sit, breathe, and find some sort of inner peace and balance has really helped me in my daily pursuits.

That being said, I’m going to advocate trying several different types of meditation into your routine (morning and night), but you may need to experiment with a few different apps or YouTube videos that may do it justice. For my recommendations, I’d suggest either Headspace , Synctuition, or FitMind, which I have personal experience with. You can always hit up YouTube, and search through various gratitude, manifesting, or simple meditation sounds, too, which I’ve done on occasion when I’m on the go. Sometimes I also look up simple nature sounds or even - use nothing! Which can be the best form of meditation.

Either way, let’s dive into the top five reasons to meditate, in my opinion, of course.

1) Reduces Stress

No surprises here. When you meditate, you find a certain stillness that comes from within. This allows the dust of your mind to settle from the swirling sandstorm to a nice calm, desert. One where you can see clearly and observe things from a detached perspective and calm yourself, mind and body.

2) Controls Anxiety

Less stress translates to less anxiety! Anxiety happens when we are too focused on what is ahead of us and what happened in the past. Anxiety is caused when we are no longer living in the now, and when we let the movies that run our mind grab us and bring us into chaos. Stop thinking about the future, or the past - none of it matters, only the now matters. Control your anxiety by anchoring yourself in the Now.

3) Promotes Emotional Health & Self-Awareness

Meditating can have a positive outlook on your life. By taking the time to observe your breath, your thoughts, and your body, you’ll immediately notice what needs to be taken care of. Meditation can also reduce depression by decreasing inflammatory chemicals known as cytokines, which are released into your body when stress is also introduced into your body. Think fight or flight - what happens? Your body gets a hit of these chemicals which can be notoriously difficult to eradicate from your system. Think of stress = fire alarm inside your body. Meditation can be the sprinklers.

4) Higher Focus & Attentiveness

Guess what? Finding the time to be still and quiet leads your mind to focus on the Now. It leads your sense to pay attention to the things you most need to - like sounds, smells, thoughts, breathe and more. This, in turn, allows your senses to be heightened throughout the day, and into the night as you sleep. Think of shaking a snow globe. What happens? You see it β€˜Snow’ throughout the day until it settles. Only when you press pause, can you really observe the forest through the trees. You’ll notice lasting impacts throughout the day when you meditate. Try it out. Get it done.

5) Promotes Kindness & Patience

Meditation can be a loving-kindness form of healing, and promote self-love, inner confidence and inner peace. This, in turn, leads to developing kindness, attentiveness and patience outwardly towards others, as well. When you learn to forgive yourself, you can learn to forgive others, find patience and empathy for them, too. Compassion is a big key in any form of meditation, and its purpose is allow you to dive beneath the surface of your emotions and unlock what is behind certain doors. Try out some meditation and find out for yourself!

Anyways, as it is, I really believe you should try to incorporate some form of meditation into your daily routine. You’ll learn a bit about yourself, others, and will find a sense of calm and thing to look forward to each and every day.

Hope all is well, stay strong. Give me a shout. Let’s work on your business together.
